Peter Reitan, resident in the Irvine office, represents clients in all areas of intellectual property law including patent prosecution, patent litigation, and intellectual property counseling and strategic planning. Mr. Reitan has written and prosecuted patents in a wide range of technology areas including: electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronics, integrated circuits and semiconductor devices, semiconductor fabrication and equipment, MEMS devices, medical devices, computer hardware and software. In addition to his experience as a patent attorney, Mr. Reitan has extensive litigation experience in intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, trade dress, trade secrets, and unfair competition, as well as general commercial matters. He also has significant experience registering and protecting trademarks for his clients.

Mr. Reitan earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and received a B.S. in Physics from Bucknell University. Mr. Reitan is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and is a member of the California and Massachusetts Bars.

After law school, Mr. Reitan clerked two years for Chief Judge Michael J. Melloy (now on the 8th Circuit) in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa. Prior to joining MacPherson Kwok Chen & Heid LLP, Mr. Reitan worked as a patent associate Christie, Parker & Hale in Pasadena. Mr. Reitan speaks fluent German and worked as an associate with the patent firm Dreiss, Fuhlendorf, Steimle & Becker in Stuttgart Germany. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Reitan worked as an operating engineer for methane- and trash-powered, co-generation power plants operated by the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. Mr. Reitan previously served on active duty as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy and was recalled to active duty following 9/11.
