Alan H. MacPherson focuses his legal practice on patent prosecution and litigation cases involving complex and emerging technologies with emphasis on business transactions and disputes associated with patents, copyrights, trademarks, mask works, trade secrets and unfair competition. Throughout his legal career, Mr. MacPherson has drafted hundreds of licenses and technology agreements, and has been instrumental in many intellectual property transactions. Mr. MacPherson is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Prior to forming MacPherson Kwok Chen & Heid LLP, Mr. MacPherson was a name partner at Skjerven Morrill MacPherson, where he headed the Patent Group and served as Chairman of the firm. Before his tenure at Skjerven, Mr. MacPherson served as Patent Counsel at Mountain View-based Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation where he was responsible for the company’s patent, trade secret, copyright, trademark, customs and licensing matters. Before Fairchild, he was a member of the Patent Staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. There, he performed invention analysis and was responsible for preparation and prosecution of patent applications involving speech bandwidth compression, signal detection, digital transmission systems, acoustics, computing systems and data processing. Early in his career he held technical positions at Space Technology Laboratories in Redondo Beach, Calif., Dynamic Analysis and Control Laboratory at M.I.T., Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn., and Shell Oil Company in Ventura, California.

Mr. MacPherson has moderated and lectured for such prestigious groups as the Advanced Patent Law Institute, University of Texas School of Law and the Practicing Law Institute’s Intellectual Property Seminars. He is listed in the “International Who’s Who of Patent Lawyers”, and has been featured as “One of the Top Patent Attorneys in the State” and “Best Patent Procurement Attorney” in California Lawyer and Upside Magazine.
